This monkey quilt I have been working on this week, it is machine embroidered. I can't remember the last time I made a machine embroidered quilt. A gal I work with lost her son about 2 months ago and they are having an auction to raise money for all the expenses. I thought I would make this and donate it to the cause, I'm hoping to get it on my machine on Tuesday since I work the next 3 days. It's been so slow at work I haven't been there for 2 weeks so it's gonna seem weird going in.

Lazy Lucy, she found out today that if she just leans over the edge of her bed she could reach her food. Here she is eating. She has been a pretty good puppy, today we spent alot of time outside and she is pretty worn out. She has slept most of the last 3 hours time to wake her up and get her tired out so she will sleep tonight.

Not much going on around here just wanted to pop in and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

A few days ago we added a puppy to our family. This is Lucy she is only 6 weeks old and is a very smart little pup. She has had only a handful of accidents since we got her and most of the time she'll whimper and wants to go outside. She weighs in at a whopping 2 pounds 8 ounces. We took her to the vet the other day for her well puppy check up, they said she looked a little pale and gave me some meds. I asked how can you tell a dog is a little pale I had never heard that before. They said her gums were light in color and should be darker. Learn something new everyday. I guess taking her to a old country doc makes a difference they are all the nicest people there while we visited she was given a bath and her nails clipped all free of charge.

My dh went for his 6 month doctor visit to the heart doctor and found out his heart was in a fib once again. they have no idea what is causing this, they had him wear a monitor for 24 hours and in a couple weeks he will go in for an ultrasound of his heart. I pray all goes good with this.

The work front has been really slow getting only about 5 hours a week at The Gap but quilting is keeping me busy. Took Lucy to the studio yesterday and she wanted all the attention so didn't get much done. I have 2 baby quilts to make from scratch, both for an auction and 2 queen size quilts to get quilted for a client.

This is the 4th quilt I have quilted this week. Just loved this quilt using Dr. Seuss fabric, I used a light blue thread and the panto is called Spiral Path. I got this quilt taken off my machine and thought well I'm all caught up for now, that lasted a whole 5 minutes when another client stopped and dropped off 2 more quilts. These will be done next week, taking tomorrow off and then I work both Friday and Saturday. Have a great weekend.

This is the 3rd quilt I quilted this week. Still have one more client's quilt and I'll be all caught up for the time being. I do have 4 more quilts coming in soon so I'll be back to it as soon as they get here.

My hours have been cut at work so I have been busy in the studio. I know you can't believe with Christmas next week that they cut hours, the store is really dead during the week and the weekends have been busy but not as busy as what you would expect for this time of year. Anyways I'm staying busy in my studio doing what I love to do.

Rabbit's Lair BOM

I just finished this quilt for a client. This quilt is going to be the BOM (block of the month) for The Rabbit's Lair in Roger's Arkansas starting in Jan. This quilt is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever made the picture doesn't do it justice. The pattern is one of Marti Michell's and is done with templates, I have never used templates before but this quilt made a believer out of me, the pieces just all went together so nicely I could of never gotten them made so nicely without the templates. The gals picked out some of the most beautiful reproduction fabrics.

I still have 3 quilts to get done for clients before Christmas, they should all be done this week and shipped out.

Wooden Penny banks

My hubby made this awesome bank for one of my grandsons. He made 4 in all and had each ones name and year of birth on it. He also painted the bottoms of each the kids favorite color. I was so impressed with these and thought I would share.

I have been busy quilting for others, working at the Gap and making a quilt top for a store sample. .

The weather has finnally changed and we are getting highs in the 40's just last week we had near 70's makes you wonder what this winter is going to bring.

Courthouse Steps and Thimbles

These blocks I cut out from samples a distributor sent me. There were enough to cut 4 of each piece of fabric, here is one of each. I plan on looking to see what other fabric I have in my stash to add to it. These thinbles are 2x1x2 this will make a great start to a quilt, I can see I need to mix them up a little more there are alot of light ones in the last row.

This little quilt I made yesterday and finished today. All the strips were precut so it went fairly fast The final measurement is 11x14 perfect for a picture frame.

Christmas Socks

. My guild is making christmas socks and will fill them and give them to Child Advocacy. I have 3 finished so far and plan on making more. Each sock takes a fat quarter of quilted fabric and then another fat eight for the cuff. These are really quick and easy to make and I'm really enjoying making them.

Yesterday my email was hacked and a note was sent out to everyone on my list stating I was in London and to please send money. I am not in London so don't send money. I have changed my password and got all my contacts back but am still missing my mail that was in that account. Does anyone know how to get it back? I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may had caused anyone.

I hope you all are enjoying a beautiful holiday weekend here at the lake our temps went from upper 90's yesterday to a comfortable 75 today. The pool was is getting cold so now is the time to close the pool for the season. I hate to close it but there won't be anymore swimming when the temp of the water drops. I am not looking forward to winter.

ARTICLE Quilters Helping Stitch Tornado Victims' Lives Back Together

Joplin, MO) -- As people in Joplin work to piece their lives back together, some volunteers in Springfield are piecing quilts to help lift their spirits.
Quilters from all over the Ozarks flocked to Sewing Machines Express on South Campbell Monday.
Their goal was to stitch together as many quilts as possible, and send them to tornado victims. As admission to the event, they either brought fabric or canned goods.
The event organizer even found a local company that's been delivering quilts from similar events.
They've seen how much the handmade gifts mean.
"The people who are getting these blankets and quilts, they don't have a bed to put them on," says organizer Becky Sellers. "They're staying on someone's couch. They're staying in a motel. They're staying in a trailer or a church basement, and they like having something warm to hold on to that someone made for them in love -- whether they know the people who made them or not." If you're interested in helping, Sewing Machines Express will have some block kits ready for stitching.

This little quilt is one of Jo's Little Women's club it's called Amy's Choice and measures approx 22x22 complete. Love the brown and pink colors. I did get one block turned the wrong way but didn't find that out until I was finished quilting. Can you guess which block it is? lol

This CAT was a ufo, I finally got all the blocks made and the top is ready for quilting. In the directions it says to use the bare minimum of quilting due to it being fused. Gonna think on this for awhile if anyone has suggestions they are welcome.

Today I work and tomorrow it will be back to a charity quilt. I dyed some fabric for one of the borders but still need to get a backing fabric for it.

Yesterday I had 2 quilts brought to me to quilt for others, one was a monster it measured 109x164 yeap that was the measurements and the back was 118x96. I called my client and told her the back was to small for the top and she told me to take off some of the blocks so it would fit. I informed her I would have to charge for that service and she said no I'm on a fixed income so I'll come get it and fix it.

The other client gave me a top and back that were both the same size, so I called her and she is hoping she has more of the fabric that she pieced together for the back to make it bigger. I should hear back from both of these clients later this week.

In the meantime I'm working on a ufo, I finally got the top all done and hope to get it loaded onto the longarm within the next few days. This particular quilt was started in 2004 and was a block of the month. I was working at the quilt shop at the time and never did get mine finished it (I know that is not an excuse) it sure feels good to get another ufo done but I still have to quilt it so pictures will come later.

Berry Bliss Spaghetti Quilt

Today after going to the city to get what I couldn't get on Wednesday because of all the tornadoes I sat down and made this top. This is the quilt I taught at my guild yesterday, I had forgotten my camera and also my power cord for my sewing machine so I didn't get to work on it at guild. It took me approx 2 hours to make this complete top using only one bali pop, hope to get it quilted and bound this weekend.

Memorial Weekend

Yesterday was the start of the holiday weekend here at the lake. The stores were busy and so was the highway. The weekend warriors are here and those just coming for the weekend to visit are arriving.

Everyone traveling this weekend please stay safe don't drink and drive and when your on the waterways please be safe there as well.

Remember what this weekend is for remembering our military who have served or are serving and those that lost their lives for us.

What a day yesterday was, there were numerous tornadoes go through we are okay here in central MO. We had to go to the city yesterday and made it before the storms, after seeing the doctor we headed for Sam's Club we could tell the storm was coming in so we went in and got our shopping done but before we were done they called a code black which meant tornado warning and everyone was to go to the center of the store. It was a bit scary but we were all safe they said there was rotation only a block away from us. After the storm passed we checked out and headed home. We still needed to make a few stops but figured we would do them another day. Sure felt good to get back home.

Today is my guild meeting day and I get to teach a class. We will be making the spaghetti quilt/jelly roll race/lasagna quilt whichever you choose to call it. This is a very easy quilt to make all you do is sew the fabric strips end to end then start making rows you only need to make 5 rows and it's done. Hope to post pictures later.

weather and quilting

Once again we are under a tornado watch until 3am, it's going to be a long night here in Central MO. Keep all those in harms way in your prayers, I hear 7 have died in OK today and they are still finding bodies in Joplin MO which is only 3 hours south west of me.

Today I spend part of the day working on a client's quilt and tomorrow will be another busy day for me. My dh has allergies to something where it is breaking out around his eyes and inflaming the area around them so we are off to the city tomorrow to the dermatologist. I sure hope they give him something to help him.

retreat quilt and monsters

I have been playing catchup for the last few days. I finally was able to get around to making my grandkids their monsters. I had given the two youngest ones the store samples I had and the two older ones asked for me to make them one. I finally got around to getting them done and I'm sure they will be happy to get them in the mail. I did let the kids pick out what fabric they wanted and what monster they wanted.

This quilt was started when I went on retreat to Nebraska City last Feb. I finally was able to get it done and quilted. I quilted it in diamonds as Jo's sample was done. This was the first time I had done the diamonds and it was really easy on my longarm. Nice to have another one checked off my list. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Keeping busy

The last few days I have been cleaning my studio and pitching stuff. I have been so busy that this is the first time I can actually weed things out. Now what to do with the big black garbage bag of batting pieces, There are several different kinds and sizes I'll have to sort them into types and color then decide.

Since I am no longer doing quilt shows I have decided it's time to look for a job. I had an interview today at a store at the outlet mall. They did an interview with 4 of us all at the same time. When I asked what the pay would be I was told it varies, she couldn't give me an amount. Never heard of this before. I'll find out in a few days if I have it or not but in the meantime I;m going to continue to look you never know what will come along.

People have asked me if I get a job will I still be longarm quilting , the answer to that question is YES. I love to quilt and will continue to as long as people give me tops to quilt.

Once again here in Mid MO we are under tornado watches until 9 pm. I sure hope the weather doesn't get bad but everyone in the way of these storms please be safe.

Angie's Car, Justin's Surgery, Ryan's Graduation

The last few days I spent up in the city helping my daughter. Her youngest son was to have surgery early Monday morning, on her way to take him to the hospital at 5:30 in the morning she hit a deer. It did quit a bit of damage but it was still driveable and her and Justin were not hurt.

Here's Justin in his hospital bed after surgery. He had his tonsils and adnoids out. They wanted him to eat and drink before he went home. He ate really good but didn't want to drink the 3 cups of juice. I was so surprised that they gave him chicken nuggets, fries, and even a hotdog besides the usual icecream, jello and yogurt.

Here he is 30 hours after the surgery at his brother's graduation. As long as he was on his pain killers he was great when they wore off and he was sleeping and not getting them on time he was in alot of pain.

Here's Ryan in his gown and has his diploma in his hand. He graduatated from preschool last night.

I'm home again for just a short time. My friends and I had a great 2 1/2 days at MQS. We took several classes and spent a good time in the vendors booth which we all supported very well. We all got new gadgets, threads, longarm supplies and books for inspiration. As always the quilts on display were just beautiful. Also a quick stop at Fabri Quilt for some backing fabric.

I'll be heading up to my daughter's to help her out for a few days. Her youngest son my 2 year old grandson is having surgery early Monday morning to get his tonsils and adenoids out. Poor little guy has been sick most of his life I sure hope and pray this surgery goes well and he will make it through it find.

The next grandson in line who is almost 5 will be graduating from preschool on tuesday so it will be nice to be up there to see him in his little cap and gown. Hope to get at least a few pictures of that.

Some friends and I are heading to MQS today to take some longarm classes. This show is held in Overland Park, Kansas and will be moving next year to Wichita. I'm kinda sad to see the show move as this was only a 2 and 1/2 hour drive and could be an easy day trip. If you ever wanted to test drive all the different longarm machines this is the show for you. There will also be alot of beautiful quilts on display and vendors with all the new longarm supplies.

Today we drove up to Kansas City Kansas for the Greater Kansas City Guild Quilt Show at the Pastoral Center on Parallel Parkway. There are lots of beautiful quilts hung in this show so come by and see us. This is the last show I will be vending at, you will still be able to find some of my products here on my blog check the tabs above I'll be posting fabric I have such as Mandalas, and speciality fabrics in a couple weeks.

This is my friend Julie, she works for The Rabbit's Lair and is getting their booth all ready for the show. I was happy to see she was given the spot next to me.

Paducah and Busy in the studio

Last week was the AQS quilt show in Paducah, KY. The weather was raining off and on, the water was rising and the floodgates were closed on Monday, the show will go on. The Main Expo Center is on the wrong side of the flood walls, I have no idea why it was built on the wrong side but it was. Anyways AQS really scrambled to move quilts and get vendor"s spaces all ready I congratulate them for a job well done. We moved in on Monday and the closing of the walls didn't effect us any or any of the shops downtown. This show was the best I have done in Paducah, everyday sales were up and I went home a very tired happy camper.

Today it was time back in the studio, I got a quilt quilted for a client, it was a Relay for Life quilt, I quilted and bound it. It will hang in different places to raise money for such a good cause.

Tomorrow I will be quilting another quilt and Wednesday we leave for KC for another quilt show. Another busy week here at Mamaw's Handdyes.

Today at the AQS Show in Paducah

The past few days here in Paducah have been wet but it hasn't kept the quilter's from coming out to the AQS Show in Paducah. This year they had to evacuate the Expo Center for the safety of the quilts in the show and the people all coming to the show. AQS really had to scramble this year to get areas for all the vendors that were vending here. Some of the vendors had to go across town to the mall and set up This is not in the mall but past it on the side street in the old Circuit City building and the Office Max building. Please check all the areas out when you come to the show.

In the picture below you'll see Mark Sherman signing autographs in a magazine which feature his fabric and art quilts you'll also see the stack of fabric he is going through to purchase. Another great day at the AQS quilt show.

The Ohio River

I sent Marc over today to take some pictures of the Ohio River from the observation area at The Carson Building in downtown Paducah. The river is rising as you can see the flood gate have been closed and you can still see some grass. I'll try to get pictures daily to see just how different it is each day. Something sure did piss off Mother Nature with the floods in the mid west, the tornadoes in the south and more snow in MN it sure makes you wonder just what is going on with out weather. I hope and pray for everyone's safety during this terrible time of year. There has been to much death and distruction in the past month so everyone please stay safe.

The Show Will Go ON!!!!!!

The show will go on. The guys in the first picture are getting ready to close the floodgates. With the gates closed it will hold up to 63 feet of water back the river is to go up to 58 feet. Closing the flood-walls means the Civic Center has to be evacuated and everything moved out. The quilts are moved to the Pavilion aka the bubble or marshmallow. The vendors that were in the Pavilion are being moved to the closed Circuit City Store by the mall. The downtown area is NOT being effected, so if your coming to the show please come downtown to the Finkle Building we are opened. The great restaurants downtown are also opened. The food tent with the boy scouts great strawberry shortcake is being moved to the parking lot across from the Museum. The museum is still opened it is not being effected by the flooding. As I said DOWNTOWN IS NOT BEING AFFECTED Please come shop and eat.

The gates are closed.

Dress

Here's my granddaughter in the dress I made for her. She wanted one like her apron this is very similar to it. She thought the front was a little low on her so I told her to untie and retie the shoulder straps and it fit great. I still think it is a little long but she will be growing and she loves it and wants more. lol

Today I will be getting the last of everything together to put in the trailer. We leave in the morning for Paducah, this is my last year to vend in Paducah, the cost of traveling, hotels and even booth fees have gone up and that not even the cost of fabric and everything else that has gone up. This will be your last chance to get my fabric in Paducah.

Paducah and Mandalas

I leave on Sunday to go to Paducah, KY for the big AQS show I am vending at again this year. This show opens on Wednesday but I'm downtown in the Finkle building where the hurt books are and we open on Tuesday so I have an extra day to sell. I'll have handdyed fabric, snowdyed fabric, snowdyed mandalas, one of a kind fabrics, commercial batiks, stencils, ironing boards, books, patterns and much more.

dress and client's quilt

This first picture is a client's quilt I quilted over the weekend. I love the soft colors she choose this is a baby gift and I'm sure whoever gets will be very happy with it.

The other day I showed you an apron I made for my granddaughter, well she wanted a dress just like it. This is the dress I made for her yesterday I didn't have any of the fabric left from the apron so I got this from Walmart and she liked it believe it or not it's seersucker fabric just like the ole days. lol I hope it fits I went by her measurements and they were alot smaller then the size I would of made if I just made the dress from the pattern. I was lucky enough to find a pattern just like the apron. lol

Cabin Fever Quilt Guild Show

Today my daytime guild had their quilt show, they only have a show every 3 years. They had a total of 149 quilts form the 25 members that belong to the quilt.

The raffle quilt. A few years ago the members all made a block, they were given the background fabric and a multi flower fabric and was told to make a block. One of those blocks are mine but I don't remember which one I made.

Snowdyeing

Yesterday I spent part of the day snowdyeing fabric and farmer dresses here are my results. The mandala's will be for sale in Paducah at the AQS show at the end of the month. I'll be in the Finkle building where the hurt books are at downtown on the bus route. Stop in and see me there.

More Dresses and a client's quilt

Today I finished two more snowdyed dresses, the one on the left is for a client and the one on the right is for my friend Julie.

After cleaning up from snowdyeing I quilted a quilt for a client today.

After lunch I took this quilt off the longarm and snowdyed 2 more dresses and 3 mandalas. Look tomorrow to see the mandalas and dresses.

My plans for tomorrow is to get the area cleaned up from snowdyeing today and then quilt another quilt. After that if there is time I plan on doing more snowdyed mandalas which will be for sale at the AQS show in Paducah. I also have some rusted pieces that will need to be rinsed and washed out this weekend. Never a dull moment at Mamaw's Handdyes.

I was gone on retreat over the last weekend so today it was time to get busy in the studio again. I snowdyed these Farmer Dresses for a client in Arkansas. She had requested the lime green and purple colors. She also requested a hot pink which is batching as I type.

This quilt is a logcabin I quilted for a client today. This first picture shows the back side and the second the front. I found a green thread that was a little bright for this quilt but after quilting it it looks good and blends well.

Today I also did a little rust dyeing and those pieces are outside batching for a few days. I'll post pictures when I get it done.

These are the blocks I made on retreat. Today I started making the pieces to fill in hope to have this done soon.

I went on retreat last weekend Thursday thru Sunday at The Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, NB. I have been going on this retreat for the past 6 years and it's always a fun one with Jo Morton and all the gals I only get to see once a year. Today I got all set up for The Gatherin. This is the 5th year so to celebrate the gals putting it on surprised us with lasagna for lunch , this is the 4th year I'm doing this show. The show runs Friday 9-6 and Saturday 9-3 it's in Stover, MO at the Community Center.

This quilt was a bom/ufo from way back. All I had to do was make one block, the bottom one with the hedgehog on it and then put it together. Today I finished getting the binding on it I'm glad to have another UFO checked off my list, this is number 3 ufo completed this year.

My small quilt guild is having a quilt show this spring. This is the third crayon roll-up I have made for the boutique and have one more cut out and halfway pieced. The show is in April so it's coming up really soon.

This piece of fabric is a handdyed that I decided to play around with paintsticks and stencils. The bottom 8 stencils are positive and negatives, I wanted to show what they look like. The others are just stencils that I have and also sell. I'm hoping this will help show people what to do with paintsticks and stencils on fabric you can make some really awesome fabrics with paintsticks.

Today I finished yet another quilt. This small quilt measures 30"x30" the blocks are all 4" in size. I started this quilt at retreat 2 weeks ago and today I finished the quilting and got it bound.

Finally the weather has turned and we are having a few beautiful days with temps climbing into the 70's and 80's tomorrow. Sure we are suppose to get some rain and maybe even some storms but I would much rather have that then the snow we had the other day. Yes on Monday we had 7" of snow but the ground was warm and it melted quickly. Today I got some fabric on the barrel letting it rust for a few days perfect weather for that.

This quilt belongs to a client, I did cross hatching behind the bunnies and a loopy ribbon on the sashing. This quilt is for my client's great grand baby.

I talked about this ufo the other day. I got the entire quilt top done now. I really like the way this quilt turned out. I thought about doing some custom work on it but I did a paisley overall pattern instead with it being so busy.

The following are more mandalas I did the other day. The last two are regular snowdyed pieces. After doing the mandalas and seeing all the awesome texture in them I like them alot more then just the regular snowdyes.

I have been busy in the studio the last few days but I can't share what I have been doing as of yet. Here are a few of the snowdyed mandalas I did the other day. We are experiencing some beautiful 70 degree days and will continue to get some great weather for the next week or so. The farmers almanac says we are suppose to get 23 inches of snow at the end of this month I sure hope not. I am really enjoying this beautiful weather being able to open the windows and air out the house and studio and also just enjoying some time outside.\

I also tried to do some pieces like a friend of mine does but I think I'm doing something wrong, they just don't look as nice as hers. I'm going to try again in a few days and see if I can get better results. Tomorrow I'm going to be working on snowdyeing some t shirts and onesies. I decided this year I would work on UFO's. This one was a block exchange at a Jo Morton retreat a year ago. There were 17 of us that exchanged blocks so I made a few more to make 20 notice how there are no 2 blocks the same. We have retreat coming up again in a few short weeks so I really want to get it done to take with. I have also been working on more snowdyed mandala's for future quilt shows. I think I have around 100 of them made. Next I'll be doing more snowdyeing of t shirts for the quilt shows as well.

I've been busy in the studio getting ready for the spring quilt shows. These are rusted fabrics, first ones off the burn barrel this year. I really like the texture you get using this technique.

This is a client's quilt I did this morning. So simple but makes for a really nice quilt. I quilted butterflies on it.

Spaghetti Quilt and Client's Quilt

This quilt is known as a Spaghetti Quilt or as the quilt from the Jelly Roll Race. You use one jellyroll or bali pop to make this. I made this at retreat Friday night. Today I got it quilted and bound.

This is the back side you can't really see the quilting on it.

This quilt belongs to a client. She made this in a guild workshop last fall. I quilted it yesterday for her.

Today I am back to doing some snowdyeing of mandala's need to be getting ready for the spring quilt shows they start real soon.

This little doll quilt is a UFO, I had the 3 1/2 inch 9 patches for a long time just sitting on my cutting table waiting for me to do something with them. They were from a swap on the Little Women's list a few years ago, I got it all put together today and quilted and it feels good to have one of my ufos complete. I'm going to try and work on more ufos this year and not buy fabric unless it's to finish a project.

A few people had asked me to show how I quilted my snowdyed mandala so here is the finished quilt. After quilting and binding it I also added some crystals. This will hang in my booth at quilt shows. I was pleasantly surprised to see I had a yard of fabric that matched pretty good for the binding in my stash.

Alot of the mud is drying up and the snow is all gone. It looks like I will have to make snow if I want to make anymore of these mandalas. These are the last of the snowdyes for the time being I have client's quilt that need to be quilted and I won't dye fabric and quilt at the same time. I sure would hate to get dye on someone else's quilt. These are also for the Paducah Show. As you look at these pieces you can see that usually 3 of them look the same color I had dyed them together all the same colors and they each turn out different so you can see that no 2 are alike.

This piece here I want to quilt as a whole-cloth quilt so I have a sample on display in my booth but I have no idea where to start with the quilting on it. I have never done a whole cloth before this could be interesting.

These last 3 pieces I had used Scarlet Red and Jet Black. I am really surprised I don't have much black at all showing up. I wonder why?

We finally got all of the plowing done and after it was piled high all over the place we noticed that there was a blue color to the snow. It reminded me of the glacier's I saw when I was on an Alaskan Cruise.

I have been playing with snowdyes some more since we were snowed in for so long. Here are just a few of those that I did.

See the pile of snow we have several of those along the driveway and we still need to dig out the front of the house. I will be snowdyeing for a long time from this snow.

not to happy with this piece it didn't get as much color as others I'm still debating on weather to overdye it it or not. It does have a light green cast to it.

Here's another one that didn't get the dye like the others. Not sure why there is so much white I may overdye this one also with a light color.

I received this quilt from a client the other day and was wondering just how I was going to quilt it. I was going through DigiTech's panto's and came across this one of snowflakes so I ordered it and it came yesterday. I tried the Glide thread on this one and I really like the way that thread works on my longarm.

So today I loaded it on my machine and quilted it. I think the snowflakes really look great on this quilt.

We woke to a couple of inches of snow on the ground this morning and by 4 oclock we had 2 foot and it was still coming down. I spent the day in the studio rinsing snowdyed fabric and quilting a clients quilt.

The door to my studio we had about 6 inches of snow at 10 am.

This quilt is called the Vegetable cat quilt and it belongs to a client of mine, a local quilt shop did this as a block of the month. I really had fun quilting this one. I don't usually do custom quilting but I did on this one. Each cat has a name so cute.

Escape From Alcatraz

This is my guild challenge piece it's called Escape From Alcatraz, I was inspired by a picture in a book/pattern. We were given the multicolor with the circles on it and was told we had to use 8x8 inches of it and the project couldn't be smaller then 12x12 and it had to be embellished. They didn't care how it was embellished as long as it was embellished. I had alot of fun quilting this with all the different fills I used.

This little quilt is baby size and the pattern is called Jack and Jill by Kariepatch, the pattern comes with a boy and a girl quilt where this one has sail boats the other one has flowers appliqued. Internet Woes

Our internet has been off more then on lately so after numerous phone calls realigning the dish and it still being off more then on we decided to upgrade our system. Funny thing is once we have decided to do this the internet has been working just fine. It sure makes you wonder if they do this on purpose to get you to upgrade. What's your thoughts.

Busy Day in Studio

It was a busy day in the studio I finished all the longarm quilting on the Urban Cabin quilt and got it bound it's all handdyes but the background. I also bound the baby quilt. I then got all the fabric cut out for another quilt called Jack and Jill, I'll be making the Jack quilt, This pattern has two in it one for a girl and one for a boy hence the name Jack and Jill. If you click on the picture it will enlarge and you can see the quilting up close.

Blogger hasn't let me load any pictures recently so here is what I have been up to.

This purse is called the Religh purse, I had trouble selling this black and white batik so I thought I would make something out of it. I really like how this purse is constructed.

This quilt is called Urban Cabin, I have it on my longarm and have half the quilting done on it. Tomorrow I'll get it finished.

This happy baby quilt belongs to a friend of mine, this morning I quilted it for her, this was the first time I did echo quilting.

I received some gold sparkley decolourant in the mail the other day so thought I would try it. The piece on the left I stenciled the declourant on let it sit to dry and the one on the right I stenciled it, let it dry and then took the iron to it. I'm not sure if I have enough of the declourant on it or not. The gold is really light and now I wonder what it will look like after washing. I'll wait to wash it until I have more things to wash.

It's been awhile since I did any dyeing but today I was able to get in a little. I got 8 yards of fabric dyed today for 2 different quilts and they are batching overnight. I have a quilt almost done, it's called Urban Cabin and is one of the Atkinson designs you can view the pattern here I have the border fabric batching and after washout I hope to get it added tomorrow then on to quilting it. Haven't decided yet how I want to quilt it, there are several different ways to do it, I could do all lines, or a panto of feathers or some custom quilting. If anyone has any suggestions please post.

I have also made a purse this past week, need to get a picture and get it posted it's been awhile since I have either sewn or dyed for myself but that is how I'm starting out my year. I'm thinking the Urban Cabin quilt will make a great gift for my sister in laws 50th bday in June.

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,

The only one sleeping was Quilter's dear spouse.

The Log Cabin stockings were almost completed,

"Just a few stitches left," our sweet quilter repeated,

"Then I can hang them and head off to finish

the pillows I'm making, fulfilling Mom's wish

For something 'quilty' to put on her couch",

as she pricked her poor finger, our quilter yelled, "Ouch!"

When from out in the kitchen there arose such a crashing,

she sprang from her work, and she dropped all her sashing.

Away to the doorway she flew like a plane,

wondering just what was happening and who she could blame.

When what to her wondering eyes should appear,

but Old Mrs Claus and her bag of quilt-gear....

With her elves bearing gifts, through the kitchen she came,

she directed and pointed and called them by name.

"Now Elna, now Pfaff, now Bernina and Viking,

the Andover and Blue Hill should be just to her liking.

To the sewing room - there, it's just back of the hall,

now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"

"My Dear," said The Claus (as she liked to be called),

"There really is no need to worry at all.

Your projects will all be completed this night,

I'm terribly sorry we gave you a fright.

Sit down. Have some tea. It's relaxing, you'll see.

My friends and I've come a long way to help Thee."

She thought she was dreaming, our Dear Quilter did,

In fact she quite feared that she'd near flipped her lid!

But the flash of the needles and twist of the thread

soon gave her to know she had nothing to dread.

They spoke no more words, but went straight to their sewing.

How the work went so quickly she had no way of knowing.

The stitches, how tiny! The corners, how straight!

This Claus-woman's talent was awfully great.

They finished the pillows, then started a quilt.

Before they all knew it, the whole thing was built!..

Now old Mrs. Claus, she knew quilters real well,

and she knew they'd need help on this night most of all

So she said to our quilter, "Just move over, dear,

I've brought my own needle. We'll get done, never fear.

I told dear old Santa about what quilters do.

How they plan all these projects but have other work too.

So he taught me his magic for doing things fast.

There, that pillow's done. Now this is the last."

They tidied their thread snips, and picked up the scraps

and chased our dear quilters six cats from their laps.

They left behind gingerbread (just to be nice)

and the whole house smelled sweetly of Christmas and spice.

As they scurried away with their thimbles still gleaming

dear Mrs. Claus paused, her cap ribbons streaming.

"Merry Christmas, my dear, now just have a ball!

where did the week go??

It's been almost a week since I posted last, there has been alot going on here. First I have finally finished the flannel quilts. I never thought I would get all 4 done and I did just that yesterday. Well now it's time to clean up some. There is so much dust and lint from the flannel that it just seems like it has traveled all over the studio, I first tore the sewing area completely apart and today got it put back together. That is about 1/4 of the studio, I'll work on the rest a little at at time, I then went on and got all my christmas gifts wrapped and started on shorts for my dh. Yes shorts in Dec, he is the type of guy who wears them all year long and I have been so busy dyeing and quilting I haven't made him any in about a year so it's time. I plan on 5 pairs but we will see how it progresses or if I get to bored making them I'll just get back to cleaning a little sooner. I'm doing a deep cleaning where everything is getting taken apart and put back together, the easiest way for me to do it is a little at a time.

My plans for next year is to work on my ufos. I have quit a few of them, at one time when I first started quilting I would take classes and it seemed like I never finished anything before I moved on to the next project so this year my goal is to complete some of them along with getting some of my quilts quilted that are in my to be quilted pile.

Reindeer Placemats

I had seen on the internet somewhere where you take kids footprints and hand-prints and make a reindeer out of them. The person who did it had made a pillow but I decided to make place mats for my grandkids. I had asked their mother to send me a print of each of their hands and foot. I received them in the mail and thought what the heck is this for then I remembered. Today I made these place mats while I did rinse-out for the flannel quilt backs. Yes I am still working on them but I do have one loaded on the longarm and the other 3 ready to be longarm quilted. Back to the place mats, I quilted these with an echo quilting around the deer the meandered the rest, I did quilt each child's name on the place mats with the longarm. These will make a great remembrance for them and their mom.

Quilting

I haven't had much to show lately most of what I have been doing are either Christmas gifts or client's quilts, I am still working on the flannel quilts. I do put them aside when I get a quilt that needs to be done so they are slow going. I do have almost 3 tops completed and all the blocks made for the 4th one. I am hoping to get the backs dyed this weekend and quilted next week.

Today I took the day and quilted a quilt and bound it for my Guild's CADV family. We adopted a family for Christmas and are giving each member in the family a quilt along with items they have asked for. I used Fox color thread and The Meandering Feather Panto.

Ornament

My small guild is having a Christmas party on Thursday, we are each to make an ornament and have something to do with fabric either in it, on it or made from. I was decorating my tree and had forgotten about my snowmen ornaments that I had made several years ago. Off to the studio this morning and found the dvd with the embroidery and instructions on how to make it. This is my ornament for the exchange.

Can't believe it's December already, I have busy quilting client's quilts so haven't had anything to show. Now I am in the process of making not 1 not 2 but 4 of these quilts for my grandkids. This one still needs the outside border and the top will be done except the quilting. I have all the blocks made for the other 3 quilts so it won't be long until I have them all done and then to quilt them. I have a client's quilt coming in tomorrow so this will get finished after that. I plan on dyeing the backs out of flannel and making each one a different color so the kids will all know which one is theirs.

Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. My daughter and her family came for the day, the guys deep fried the turkey oh it was wonderful. This morning we tackled the mall and traffic to see Santa, there were no lines so was able to get right in. I was pleasantly surprised the 2 year old went to Santa without any problems. They went home this afternoon, the house is picked back up and things are back to normal. It's always great to see the grandkids even for a short time, I miss them already.

This past weekend I spent the weekend with my daughter, her family and my mom and brother. My grandkids were baptized on Sunday and we all made the journey to my daughter's home, her in laws came from Texas, my mom and brother Paul came from Indiana and we came up from the lake. The weather was perfect and we all had a wonderful time at her home. Here are just a few pictures I'll share with you all.

Stack and Slash

WOW it's been awhile since I posted about much of anything. I have been busy quilting clients quilts and now that I am all caught up for the time being I decided to make my grandkids some flannel quilts. I decided to use the stack and slash method, I got 17 blocks made today but need a few more for this quilt and then a border on it. All the quilts will be made the same way just something for them to drag around and keep warm with. 63 more blocks to make then to quilt and bind them hope to have them all done for Christmas but who knows what will happen between now and then.

Lots going on

There has been alot going on in my studio this week, I have been quilting quilts for clients and working on some Christmas presents so no pictures to share so far this week.

Last night was our annual guild auction. We all bring different things to auction off and a desert. There were lots of deserts way more then anyone could eat. Out auction was okay we raised approx $450 for the guild. Fun was had by all this guild has only about 30 members and only 15 were there last night so not to bad for our annual fund raiser.

The rest of the week won't be very productive. I have a guild meeting and shopping the the city scheduled for the end of the week.

Yesterday was the last day of the quilt show we tore down and headed home. This morning we got the van unloaded and back to quilting I went. I have a client who brought me a quilt that measures76x109, a little odd shape but that's what she wanted she also brought a mattress pad that was pieced together to put inside. I have done one with a mattress pad in the past but it wasn't pieced like this one. It turned out great!! One more quilt waiting to be done for this client then on to other things maybe a few ufo's or flannel quilts for grandkids who knows what this week will bring. The weather today was awesome even thou it was a little windy out the temps hit the upper 70's I can take that for Nov.
