this and that

The last few days I have been getting ready for the spring show season my first show isn't until March but tomorrow I am having carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand so I need to get most everything done. I have cut black and white fat quarters, yards of batiks in both fat quarters and yardage, dyed purples, dyed more velvet, ripped more yellow, green and blue handdyes into fat quarters and also cut 1" strips for the Jo Morton retreat next month and today I made two blocks for my guild block lotto, worked on a yellow brick road quilt and came up to the city to spend the night. We decided to use priority points and drive up to the city today since there is suppose to be rain/sleet and snow tonight and tomorrow and we wouldn't have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to drive up here.
More velvets just out of the dryer.

blocks for the block lotto

yellow brick road quilt needs borders still. I had it on my design wall and I think I may have mixed up a few of the rows/blocks. I may take it apart and rearrange some of it.

This and That

Thanksgiving is over and so is Black Friday. Did anyone venture out yesterday? I did for a little while, went to the mall and Walmart. I had no problems with parking or lines at either place.

Back to quilting today. I finally finished the quilt in the picture below. It took me 2 weeks to make the quilt top. A good friend is getting married on Dec 7 and this is their gift. I found out about the wedding about 2 1/2 weeks ago and with just having surgery 3 weeks ago I took my time in making it. It is a simple split nine patch, I took a layer cake and cut it in half both directions then added another fabric that went with it and used that as the middle square in all the blocks and made nine patches. I then cut the nine patches in half in both directions and turned two of the blocks outward. It really was quick and easy but I took my time and didn't overdo my arm. I now have it on my longarm and tomorrow I should finish quilting it and hopefully get it bound.
I haven't gotten my Christmas directions up yet since I can't lift anything heavy and my dh doesn't want to bring them in yet. It's raining today and we are expecting 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight and into tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to snow yet but it's right on time. I looked back on my blog and see that on Dec 9th last year we had an ice storm and the 9th is only a week and a half away.

This and that

I don't have any pictures to share but the last few days I have been overdyeing fabric. It seemed like everyone was wanting a darker brown or really just darker colors and I was out of them so I started overdyeing. I just took the lighter shades of different colors and just overdyed them with a color from the same color family. I also dyed some sateen, I love the way the sateen dyes.

My 4 year old granddaughter wants some rainbow socks but she only wanted pink and purple in them so today I dyed some for her in stripes. I also did a solid pink and a solid purple. I'll post pictures tomorrow they are batching now. She normally wears heavy socks and these are a soft cotton and when she saw them she was so surprised that socks could be soft. Her mom said she usually buys the other type so she can hand them down to the boys. The boys won't be getting these handy me downs.

this and that

It was a beautiful day here today. I got up early and snowdyed 12 yards of fabric so I could go with my dh to the big city of Columbia shopping today. On the way home we saw this going down the road. It kinda looks like a motorcycle going backwards but it did have a stirring wheel in it and looked like a one seater car.

I started working on a vest yesterday and I can't believe nobody has a 3/4" buckle. Everything was way big or the store didn't have any. I guess I'll just have to jerryrig something.

Only a few more days before I leave for Madison. I'm looking forward to doing this show. It will be a little different then the others I have vended at but should be loads of fun.

I'm still concerned about my dh's coudamin level. He has been going in weekly to have it checked and every time they check it it keeps going up instead of down. The doc wants it between 2 and 3. Well last Friday it was at 3.8 so they wanted him to change how he takes it. Today when they checked it it was 5.0 that is way to high a number. So they told him not to take any at all and on Monday they will check his blood again and go from there. I sure hope they get it leveled soon this can't be good for his blood being so thin. He has always called himself Mr.AC since he could wear shorts when it was 30 degrees out but not any more yesterday he actually had to turn the heat on in the car since he was so cold the outside temp was only 70 with the rain we got from Gustav.
