More snowdye fabric and Giveaway

Here it is August and we are having another heat wave with high humidity, so I thought I would do some snowdyeing. Here are the results of what I did, I did do some new colors again this time.
I had some scarlet and tangerine left over to use up so I played around with this piece. I like the way it turned out.
I dyed some different purples and all of them ended up with spots like this on them. I did scour the fabric first as always but have never had this happen before I used Hoffman's pfd so it didn't need scouring. Anyone have ideas???
Be sure if you haven't signed up yet for my 300 post giveaway to go to this post and sign up. I'll draw on Sunday for the 12 black and white fat quarters.

  1. I've just become interested in fabric dying and haven't tried it yet. (found your blog through Jean). I know very little about hand-dying, so I must ask you....WHAT is snowdying??? (Maybe you have explained in a previous post but today is the first I discovered your blog.)

  3. Beautiful fabrics Judi! Do you think that maybe the snow kind of packed in those white spots and wouldn't let the dye sip through??

  4. I love that you are snow dyeing in August! The new colors look great...can't help you with the purple problem, though I don't think it looks that bad. Will you leave it or try dyeing another color over it?

  6. I love your snow dyes especially the scarlet and tangerine. It is possible the problem with the purple fabric was caused by too much air getting to the fabric in those areas or maybe your fabric came in to contact with something in your washing machine.

  7. Beautiful snow dyed fabric. Love the jewel tones. Yet... do you have a humongous freezer for snow dying or did you "shave" ice?
The white spots on the purple look like scrunched fabric didn't get to see the dark of dye.

  8. I agree with Christina. It looks like your fabric was tightly scrunched and the dye didn't penetrate through all the layers of scrunching.
    Gorgeous fabrics!

  9. OH I love the fabric. Your colors are wonderful. I tired dying some fabric once but we will not be talking about my end results. I will leave the dying to you. LOL
I would love to be included in the drawing.

  10. Love your colors (even the purple with the white "voids" - about which I have no advice, sorry), and would be thrilled to be in on the giveaway!

  11. Hi Judi --- those undyed areas are interesting - the edges are VERY angular -- not trapped air, not like my overscrunched spots --- almost like something on the fabric prevented any migration of dye -- acting like a resist. Are the marks the same on both sides of the fabric ??
I would BOIL some of the fabric in a pot with S/a and Synthrapol, and dye again (or overdye one of your present pieces and see if the flaw has processed out) --- do you have any ideas yet ?? :-]]]]]]]]
