Gee's Bend Quilts

Today I took the day off from dyeing and went to a quilt show, they were having the Gee's Bend Quilts and a few of the ladies from Gee's Bend were there selling cd's. Here are all the quilts they had at the show, some were really unusual made out of all corduroy.

This quilt isn't one of the Gee's Bend Quilts but one that a family member made. They had it their being appraised. If you look at the closeup it looks like they are all tiny prairie points sewn ontop each other. The appraisal wasn't completely finished so I have no idea what it ended up being appraised for.

  1. I absolutely love these quilts---I think because they are very spontaneous! Sort of like me :-) Thank you so much for sharing! What I think is so nice is the ladies who made them were making them as "utility" not as works of art! which they have become. Who knows, maybe one of our "scrap" or "stash" quilts may one day reach such status (well we all have to have something to work towards--even if not attainable). Hugs!

  3. What great fun Judi. I love the one with the points, what a lot of work. I appreciate the "genius simplicity" of the Gee Bend quilts, but I wonder if we were to just throw anything together, would anyone look?
