ever been told to leave a quilt shop???

Today I was told to leave a quilt shop because I was talking to a friend about fabric we were suppose to get and didn't. This was a Thimbleberries quilt club from last year, today was the day we were suppose to start up the new year but we still hadn't gotten all the fabric from last year. At one time the other day I was told I had all the fabric I was suppose to get and there was no shortage, today they tried to substitute a green for the beige border and a green for the blue binding, it just looked like crap and also was not part of the club pattern. Evidently they couldn't read the instructions and can't afford to get the fabric the quilt/pattern club required. We pay good money (a couple hundred dollars) to do this project and this is the second year they messed up and they were starting the 3rd year without the pattern for month one. I did get a refund of the fabric that I wouldn't except since it was wrong and I did get a refund for the club that was suppose to start today but after the experience I have had with this quilt shop it will be one I won't go back to. I have 8 quilt shops within a half hour drive from me so it really isn't a loss for me but for them the more that hear about it the more people won't want to go to that shop.

  1. WOW! That is not customer service is it!?Sorry that happened to you. I think it would be OK to substitute fabric if the shop told you ahead of time there was no guarantee in exact fabric. But I would think the substitute would be the same color. Be thankful you got some of your money back! And Gee! You really have 7 other shops in your area?! Lucky you! Love your blog, BTW!

  2. No I haven't been asked "outright" to leave a shop, but the treatment I received obviously was meant to tell me to leave. Interesting, the ugly process began with a horribly rude customer--"why are YOU in this shop" but the owner did nothing to make it better. The shop is a fully stocked one with LOTS of batiks, which I love---but never will I go in there. BTW I was spending a gift certificate for $150 that my DH had given as a Christmas gift...which the owner made me spend EVERY cent of---wouldn't even give me change back. Any whoo---it isn't wonderful to be able to have choices---the internet is my friend! I'd much rather shop in a smaller, less stocked shop with great customer service than the opposite. Surprisely, some owners don't realize this.

    Have a great day!

  3. No I haven't but I have heard of shops making substitutions for fabrics in kits, when you really liked the fabrics that quilt was made out of originally. You don't realize it til you get it home and really look at what you got.

  4. Isn't it crazy how some people run their businesses? I once asked our local quilt shop owner if I could use a table to lay out my quilt to match thread for quilting. She told me only if I had purchased the fabrics at her shop. I had hand dyed all of the fabric for the project and just couldn't believe her attitude. I told her so. I had spent more than a thousand dollars at that shop prior to that. Now I only shop there reluctantly.
