Snowdyeing

Yesterday I spent part of the day snowdyeing fabric and farmer dresses here are my results. The mandala's will be for sale in Paducah at the AQS show at the end of the month. I'll be in the Finkle building where the hurt books are at downtown on the bus route. Stop in and see me there.

These Farmer Dresses are for my friend Marsha, she will be so comfortable wearing these around the pool this summer.

Dyeing and quilts

I'm back home from a week of vacation and there is no place like home and my own bed.

Yesterday I dyed a color wheel to make a quilt for my soon to be 9 year old grandson. He is into guitars and the fabric I found was black with multi color guitars on it. I plan to do a wonky block with alternating strips of handdyes with this batik fabric. Pictures will follow as I go along.

Today I will also get back to snowdyeing and doing some regular lwi dyeing. I have 5 shows coming up soon and need to get more fabric ready for the shows.

new work bench, snowdyeing

This snowdyed piece I did on Wednesday and let it batch until today. The sunsets lately have had alot of pink in with the blues sky so I thought maybe old rose and sky blue would make a great snowdyed piece. This is how it turned out. I think I may try the sky blue with coral still for different sky pieces.
Today I didn't think I was going to get anything accomplished. Yesterday I was gone all day and I ended up buying a workbench. Judy Laquidara
had posted on her blog about the one she got and I got to thinking about getting one. I had a card table that I used when I was snowdyeing and I noticed that I was getting dye on some fabric that was sitting behind it on a shelf so I thought that this bench might work out well. I have about 2 feet behind it so I can get to what is on the shelves behind it and then I have plenty of room between it and my longarm. It has some great drawers with dividers in it so I can put some of my smaller things in it and maybe I will be able to find things. My dh put it together for me and I couldn't dye and I couldn't get the quilt on my longarm quilted so I just sorta puttered around. I got the workbench at Sam's Club for those of you who have asked.

4 Layer Cake Quilt, snowdyeing, gutter dyeing

Today I had a pretty productive day. I did 9 yards of snow-dyed fabric, made a quilt top, used a gutter and dyed a wide back piece for the back of this quilt. The quilt is called 4 layer cake and you use a layer cake of fabric from Moda. It consists of 40 ten inch squares of different fabric. I saw this fabric in Paducah and just loved it so I bought the layer cake at Hancock's and then ordered the border and binding fabric. I waited and waited for the fabric and received bits and pieces of it and finally cancelled the last of the order and went to a quilt shop and purchased the rest. The backing fabric I used was a wide piece from Marshalls that I dyed in a gutter. A friend of mine had suggested using one for larger pieces and it worked great. I did have my dh get me a ten foot one and cut it in half and put ends on it. Now I think I would like a ten foot one just for the wide-backs so I don't have to fold it over. Tomorrow I will get some more snow-dyeing done and get this quilt quilted.
