Dyeing and quilts

I'm back home from a week of vacation and there is no place like home and my own bed.

Yesterday I dyed a color wheel to make a quilt for my soon to be 9 year old grandson. He is into guitars and the fabric I found was black with multi color guitars on it. I plan to do a wonky block with alternating strips of handdyes with this batik fabric. Pictures will follow as I go along.

Today I will also get back to snowdyeing and doing some regular lwi dyeing. I have 5 shows coming up soon and need to get more fabric ready for the shows.

There is a great article in the On Track! Magazine about testing my snowdyed fabric. I am very happy to say the least of the outcome of the test. If you get that magazine be sure to check out the results.

Snowballs and Nine Patches

I finished the quilt for my husband's aunt's 80th birthday. I have been asked by a few to see the backing fabric and the quilting. So here are the pictures of it.

I finished the quilt top today. I also got the backing dyed so tomorrow I'm hoping to get it quilted. If not tomorrow then on Sunday it will be quilted and bound.

Birthday quilt

Today I was suppose to go meet a friend and also babysit my grandkids but with the cancellation of school this morning I didn't have to babysit. My friend also canceled due to the weather. The funny part is it didn't start snowing until 3:15p.m. and the kids should of went to school. I can see some school officials with egg on their face. The same thing happened last week we were suppose to get a storm and didn't but the school did cancel classes. The kids will probably be going until June to school.

I got to sew today on the birthday quilt. I had all my nine patches done yesterday so I did my snowballs today. I was able to get the center of the top pieced and hope to get the borders done tomorrow. This quilt really was easy to make with the string piecing. I still need to dye the backing fabric which I think will be in the same blue color. I'm hoping to get that dyed tomorrow also so I can get it quilted over the weekend. My plan was to have it done on Monday so without babysitting today I am a day ahead.

Birthday quilt

My husband's aunt will turn 80 on Feb 14. Her family is planning a surprise birthday party for her on the 10Th. My husband says we are going to make the trip home 500 miles for the party. He also wants me to make a quilt for her so here it is a week and a half before we go and I have a quilt to make. She likes the color blue so I'm going with blue and white. I dyed 3 yards of fabric with Dharma Sky Blue yesterday and today I rinsed and washed it. I then ironed it and preceded to start on the quilt. I decided to do 6 1/2 inch 9 patches and 6 1/2 inch snowball blocks. I made 32-9 patches today. I'm hoping to have this done by Monday. I'll post pictures as I go along.
