poledyed and swaps

In my dyeing group we are doing a swap of a rainbow wheel. The colors I used were boysenberry, grape and orange, they are all prochem's colors.
I experimented in doing pole dyeing but instead of using a pole I did it on my clothesline. The brighter colors is what it looked like wet on the clothes line and the duller colors is what I ended up with. I made a few mistakes by not batching long enough and leaving it on the close line to dry in the sun. I should of took them off the line while wet and batched in plastic. Live and learn that is what it is all about. I did get some nice pieces though.

swaps and cops

Today I spent alot of time outdoors for a change, I got to see my grandson play football, help cut some of our grass and also started to take apart this platform that was the start to a playhouse for the grandkids but we decided to take it down and move it over to the pool for a deck instead of just using the ladder. We did some running to and while I was on a main road on the other side of the lake, (I was going to Lowe's) there are two turning lanes to go down this one road, one lane is for turning into Lowe's only where the other lane was to go straight after the turn, anyways I was in the lane to turn into Lowe's I had my turn signal and was just waiting for the light to turn, there was a cop behind me and I told Marc there is a cop behind me watch he pulls me over after I get into Lowe's parking lot we just laughed since I didn't do anything wrong. Sure enough after I got in the parking lot the lights went on so I pulled over, the young officer a state boy came over to my window and asked if I knew what he pulled me over for, I said no, he told me my license plates had expired in JAN. I said what? Marc started to get out of the car to look and the cop told him to stay in the car, he let me off with a warning and told me it would be an $85 fine if he gave me a ticket so I was lucky, we had never gotten a notice in the mail and was really surprised the plate expired, he then went on to tell me I should have my seat belt buckled properly which I had and I looked down and pulled it to show it was on right. He asked if I had any questions so I asked if he wanted to come over and finish cutting our grass, he just laughed and said no. I tried, we keep approximately 50 acres cut and we only touched a small portion today.

This piece is for an under over swap in my dyeing group, where I took textured items and place them under my fabric and rolled thickened dye on the fabric to get the yellow and orange colors for the turquoise color I should of thickened it more it seemed to run a little while batching, the red I used an old potato masher and stamped thickened dye on it also but it should of been a little thicker also.
This is a color run for a swap in my dyeing group I used Pro Chem's hollandaise and Grateful Dyes lavender. I like the colors I got mixing the two.

elmers glue resist

I'm doing a swap with my dyeing group using elmer's glue as a resist. First I dyed the pieces hollandaise and then drew with the glue on the fabric, after the glue dried I took some dyes I had sitting around and mixed them with some thickener and painted the dye on the fabric. I let the fabric batch overnight and the next day I washed it all out.

guild and swaps

Tonight I went to our guild meeting. We have been given a challenge, we were to pick two crayons out of a bag without looking in the bag and make a block out of the two crayon colors we choose, my colors ended up being a brown and a grey. I haven't decided on a block yet but we are to make a 12 1/2" unfinished block. I think I will work on this tomorrow and maybe do some dyeing. I have 3 swaps I need to dye, one is a run between red and green, one is a water resist swap and one is ruching. These are all due at different times but with shows coming up I need to get them done now so I think I will work on them also tomorrow. Ofcourse I will share pictures when I'm done.

Pounded Fabric

My surfacing group is doing a swap of pounded fabric. Below are 4 pictures of the pieces I did. You take your fabric get it damp scrunch it up and pound paint into it and let it sit in a baggie for about a week. I used Profab Textile paint in various colors. Well I did mine before I went to the MQS show last week and today I took them out of the baggies and heat set them. I really like how these turned out but I think they probably had a little to much water on them that is why they are so light.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I want to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year!!

After spending much of the last few days cleaning, tossing, rearranging, adding tables I get to get back to the fun stuff like dyeing, making quilt tops and longarm quilting. Tomorrow I will get the Log Cabin quilt quilted and hopefully get the stars and strips loaded on my machine.

I have joined quite a few swaps for the next year and some are ongoing throughout the year. My first major project for the year will be a monthly round robin with my dyeing group. We are suppose to work on dyeing our fabric and making the center for the months of Jan and Feb. We have a choice of doing it as a regular round robin or as a row quilt. I'm thinking of a regular round robin, one person will tell us what to add each month and we will go from there. I'm hoping to keep caught up with this while I'm also vending at shows. I will post as I go along.

I have also joined a group where we will be dyeing swatches of color families and swapping them. We each do one color family and I think there are 9 of us that will swap so for our work of one color family we will have 9 different families. Looking forward to getting that started.

In my 2 dyeing groups I will be doing different swaps each month or two and swapping with others, these consist of stamping, gradations, add a shade to name a few.

I am going to take another of Carol Soderlund's classes My Personal Palette. this class will be at Nancy Crow's Barn in Ohio this spring.

I also have a retreat planned at The Barn Bed and Breakfast in Kansas in March with a Jo Morton Group, Jo herself will be there.

I have several shows lined up to vend at this year including The Gathering in Stover, MO, MQS in Overland Park, KS, AQS shows in both Nashville,TN and Des Moines Iowa. I have a few more I'm waiting to hear from. This looks to be another busy year for me.

I made 4 more poholders this time I used christmas fabric. These were also quick and easy.
