Handdyes and quilts

These pieces I did using the dry soda ash technique, I really like the texture I get doing it this way.

This piece I did using the snail technique, I still have trouble getting it to go all the way through the whole yard.

This little quilt is called Autumn Crossing by Jo Morton, I used the fabric line Compliments for it so it's not to Autumny. I used a panto called Happy Times to quilt it, I re-sized it by making it 50% smaller and it worked well.

This is a clients quilt, she used the fabric from Crown Royal bags and made a pineapple block using the no wast pineapple method. I really like how this quilt turned out she did a great job.

Dyeing Days

The past few days I have been busy dyeing fabric. These were all done using techniques I learned recently. I still have more to iron so as soon as I get them ironed I will post them as well.

these pieces were done using a technique a gal at retreat showed us. The black one shows alot of white but it is actually a light grey.

This is a piece of snowdyed fabric I wanted to see what a certain color would do so I did only one yard.

These little applique pieces measure only 3x8 finished. The branches on the tree didn't turn out to well so I will have to redo them.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to everyone who is a mom, stepmom or mom to be.

Today I spent part of the day ironing more fabric.

I have been working on dyeing fabric this week the first picture is of some uglies I had laying around and I had some dyes in the frig I needed to use up so I just dumped the dyes on the fabric, when I went to iron them I realized they were sateen and I really like the way these turned out I think if I was trying to get these pieces this way there is no way they would of turned out right.

I started another quilt this one is one of Judy Laquidara's from her book Weekend Quilts, the name of the quilt is Winter Break, I'm working on it when I'm done dyeing for the day and caught up with all my ironing so it may take me a awhile to get it done.


Today's accomplishments included dyeing 20 yards of fabric plus 14---10x10 pieces of velvet, these will all get washed out tomorrow and when I get caught up with the ironing I'll share pics again.

Sunset Safari Done

Today I finished the Sunset Safari quilt. I had to make some changes from the pattern since the borders didn't fit according to the measurements given so the small black rectangles on the top and bottom of the strips I made smaller. I also made the black strips on each side of the squares narrower all and all I like the way it ended up. I quilted it by outlining the elephants and the trees and stitching in the ditch along the borders..

Sunset Safari

Today I finished the last customer quilt I brought home from guild on Tuesday so I started on a small quilt. This quilt is called Sunset Safari and is made from handdyes and batiks. I still need to add borders so tomorrow I hope to get it completed. I will sell kits of this quilt in my booth.

more snowdyes and internet woes

These are a few onsie's I dyed using the snowdyed technique. I really like the way the color splits, as you can see the blue didn't split which is okay since it will look great on a little boy. Most of the blues have red in them hence the purple color along with the blue.


My internet has been out again for the last few days and we found out there is something wrong with our dish and the guy will be here Monday to work on it. I hope anyone having the bad/cold weather is staying safe and warm. Bback to the studio to dye I have some snowdyed t's waiting to be rinsed.

rusted fabric and speciality fabrics

These are a few of the pieces I worked on yesterday, I used the trading places technique on them.








This is a 2 yard piece of rusted fabric. My grandkids helped me put it around our burn barrel. I really like the way this piece turn out.

Experimenting with overdyeing

Experiments don't you love them. I decided I wanted to play around with some overdyeing experiments. These turned out okay but not quit what I was looking for.
